Unfortunately, even if the police are nearby, for the most part
they can only
get involved after a crime has already been committed.
You and I are the real first line
of defense and we have the right to
protect ourselves and our loved ones against crime, with REASONABLE FORCE.
Reasonable force means if
someone threatens you with words, then you have the right to defend yourself
with words (tell them what you might do if they don't back off)... If someone threatens you with physical violence, then you have the
right to protect yourself with physical violence (if they try to hit you, hit
them harder)... If someone
threatens to take your life with a weapon, then you have the right to take their
life in self defense.
However, you DO NOT have the
right to take someone's life if they merely threaten you with words.
It's a fine line between
reasonable and unreasonable force. And that line gets even thinner in the
heat of battle.
Fortunately, There's non
lethal weapons you can use to protect yourself (like a pepper spray) that
are generally considered reasonable force if you truly feel you might
