Safety Tip
If you are approached by an unfamiliar animal, you must do
everything in your power to not show any signs of fear. Fear alone will provoke
many animals to attack.
Dogs and many other animals do not rely on intellect for
their daily lives. Instead they rely on instinct and a heightened sense of
awareness for survival. Many of them are hunting animals by nature, and in the
animal kingdom, the predator does not show fear, only the prey does.
If you are approached by an unfamiliar, potentially
aggressive dog, stand tall,
with feet rooted firmly on the ground, and scream a guttural, primal yell. One
that comes from the bottom of your feet, all the way up through your body, to
your throat, and out.
I have done this a number of times, and so far without
fail, the dog has always stopped in its tracks and hesitated for a second or
two.
Sometimes they will continue their approach but this short
delay will give you a second or two to prepare a fighting stance or grab a
weapon of some kind. (like your Mace dog repellent, for example)
