When some people think of
rape, they might think of a stranger jumping
out from the bushes or a parked car and
sexually attacking someone. But in fact,
about half of all people who are raped know
the person who attacked them.
Most friendships, acquaintances, and dates
never lead to violence. But unfortunately,
some do. When forced sex occurs between two
people who already know each other, it is
known as date rape.
Even if the two people were intimate or had
sex before, no one has the right to force a
sexual act on another person against his or
her will.
Females are most often raped - one in three
women will be sexually assaulted in her
life. But guys can also be raped: about 10%
of rape victims are male.
Even though rape involves forced sex, rape
is not about sex or passion. Rape has
nothing to do with love. Rape is an act of
aggression and violence.
Below are a few tips to help you from
becoming a victim of this horrible crime.
· When your out at a bar or other
establishment, always order your own drinks
and if possible watch them being made. Drugs
can be slipped into both alcoholic and
non-alcoholic drinks.
.
Don't leave your drink where you can't keep
an eye on it. If you do happen to lose track
of your drink, even for just a moment, order
another one and throw the first one away.
· If you’re on a date and you start to feel
uncomfortable around your companion, TRUST
YOUR INSTINCTS! Thank them for the evening,
tell them you don’t feel well, or even do
something disgusting to make them want to
end the date. In short, do whatever it takes
to end the date as quickly as possible. If
they still seem to be coming on too strong,
then prepare to defend yourself by any means
necessary.
.
Always try to remember one simple truth when
it comes to defending yourself against
assault, "there are no rules". You are
allowed to kick, scream, bite, scratch,
gouge eyes, or anything else that you can
think of to get away from your attacker and
the situation.
(Of course on
this site we also fully advocate the use of
stun guns and
pepper sprays for your personal
protection)
Ultimately, your main purpose is not to show
the bad guy how tough you are. Your main
objective is to get away from the assault
and put as much distance between yourself
and your attacker as possible.
Once you’ve gotten away from your attacker,
report the incident to the police
immediately.
